The thought of today is that awareness that allows us to make plans, have reflections, take actions, or even contemplate existence. In this being conscious of the moment, we can decide what to do with and within it. The way we make the most of the time we have, starts here and now.

Life, the way we do things moment to moment, in essence, is our art. We make stories and ripples by the ways of ourselves through actions, words, energies, and the overall lives that we lead. Our translations and interpretations of how we perceive and react to life have effects on others as well as our direction.

You are the artist of your life. How are you using your tools to create something helpful, inspiring, educational, or beautiful? How graceful, expressive, aggressive, caring, or any other varying way do to you approach the day? Consider that we all have a proverbial brush to paint the picture of our lives. We will be able to gain better accomplishment and satisfaction in being creative with the time at hand.

Have or Create A PurposeFind Purpose

If you feel you don’t have a purpose, or worry what yours is, realize you can make one. Do not wait for someone to come and tell you. If they do, be wary. People may feel they have the best intentions for you. But if it doesn’t resonate with or feel right to you, chances are it won’t work out.

If it does satisfy or you’re willing to give something new a chance to get out of your comfort zone, roll with it. Just know that you can change directions. Don’t wait for ‘someday.’ It’s always best to take action immediately.

If what you choose to do in any format, (recreation, business, or health) involves significant financial costs, make sure it is a wise investment for your well-being.

There are a lot of hustlers, schemes, and quick fixes that are deceptive or just don’t work in any and all of those departments. Any purpose worth having is going to take time, often money as well, in its pursuit. Consider researching multiple options (companies, brands, entities, perspectives, etc,.) before making a final decision.

Purpose examples include:

  • Business ventures
  • Spiritual quests
  • Altruistic services or inventions
  • Inspirational movements
  • Marriage and a family

Make Your Future Self Thank YouFuture Self

Realize that what you do today doesn’t only affect the moment, but will also meet up with you in the future to some degree. Pay attention to:

  • What you eat
  • How much exercise you’re getting
  • The way you treat other people
  • Information that you’re feeding your mind
  • People you choose to keep company with on a regular basis

All these daily factors paint the picture and form the frame that molds us. The more positive we keep this list, the more thankful our future selves will be with what we’ve done with today.

When we keep our future vision of ourselves in mind, the thought of today becomes more important than putting productive choices and actions off for tomorrow. Through this we start living a higher quality life.

Accept Your Plight And Rise Above It

The Phoenix is known for rising through the flames from the ashes. If your present situation is making you dissatisfied or unhappy, find a way to rise above it. Make a plan, seek the help, and take the action to escape your situation.

There are things that happen in life that we cannot change. These may be difficult dealings. But choosing to move on or overcoming the struggle is essential in moving forward.

Many disadvantaged people, including the disabled, elderly, and underprivileged, have accepted their short-comings, found inner peace, and made incredible accomplishments of the mind, body, and spirit. Amputee athletes have set records, people over 50 have found success, and those with mental impairments have learned to live a normal functional life.

Then there’s the other side. Those who seem to have it all…

These days, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of what everyone else is doing. Comparing ourselves to other’s portrayal of their lives may leave ours feeling inadequate. Remember that what is portrayed is not necessarily the reality. Social media parallels the effects of characters on a network sitcom.

Everyone else’s lives seem to be going so smooth and perfectly. It’s as if they have no problems. Realize it is a front like a fictional television show. All humans have problems and you are not unique in this regard.

This is actually a good thing in the scope of not being alone in any plight you may have. Know that others have been there and made it through like the Phoenix from the ashes.

If what you see on television or social media appeals to you, learn to take it as inspiration. If it bothers you so bad that you don’t have what you see others possessing, consider it a temporary purpose. I say temporary, because once you achieve it, there will be another level.

This is our gift of life. We should strive to keep reaching higher levels and higher qualities of existence. That in itself is purpose. Some common plights people want to work on overcoming or improving are:

  • Relationships
  • Money issues
  • Health problems
  • Depression
  • Getting a better job

Once again, we need to take steps today to rise above present problems. Many have made it from rags-to-riches or achieving their idea of happiness by refusing anything less than reaching a goal they set.

Be Thankful

Find Ways To Be Thankful

Take the time today, and everyday hereafter, to find gratitude and thankfulness for what you have. In helping to rise above a plight or find a purpose, often it starts with the tools or resources at hand. Much of the time, we have more to be grateful for than we take the time to see.

If you have your health, friends, a loving family, or even a roof over your head, that is something to not take for granted. Many do not even have those luxuries.

Some people recommend making lists of things that you are thankful for. If you’re not a list person, use it in your daily meditations.

Meditation doesn’t have to be all about Yoga pants and Middle Eastern music. Sitting in a chair, relaxing in the quiet of the moment, is more than good enough. All it really requires is turning off all your media devices and being free of distractions. Listening to your choice of music if you like, is optional.

Some may only have this kind of time in the shower for meditating alone. Be thankful if you have more time than that to relax and reflect!

Let Your Engine Cool

From time to time, we need to sharpen the sword. Daily life-grinds add wear and tear to our beings and our lives. And today, maybe you just need a break. In that case, it’s time to refresh. Turning off the noise for a while will help restore our balance.

There is a definitive line between taking a break and wasting your time. Between each individual’s perspective and goals, wasting time is going to translate differently.

We can embrace the moment or let it pass in a Netflix binge. Sometimes a person needs this kind of escape. If this isn’t a daily habit, then enjoy your G.O.T. or whatever popular/favorite show entertains your tastes. Meet up with some friends, read a good book, have a family night out, or take a vacation.

There a lot of great ways to get some proper rest and relaxation. Continually running our engines on a high revolution will eventually burn us out. Even the best performing engines need a break and some time to cool down when we run them hard.

Conclusion

The thought of today, whether random or deeply contemplated, should be used and viewed positively. Aligning and planning all take place in this moment. It is a circular, cyclic result of choices and actions. Now is where we always shape the rest of our time.

Vision and keep in focus what you want next. Proper planning and action can make that vision a reality. Also, take the time to look around and be appreciative. There are always things to be thankful for. If you own a car, have a job, and are healthy, you have it better than many others. Life may not always be perfect or to your liking. But you can change your situation.

It’s important to accept that there are things we cannot change; like loved ones we cannot bring back, and some opportunities (like being young) that we will never have again. This is all part of the life-cycle. Realize bad experiences can take place on any day.

Be realistic and prepare now for when hardship or obstacles come.

The thought of today is a culmination of the build up of the past and the possibility of the future. It could also be the time to take a break. Do what you feel is best for your future self. Know that that future could be as immediate as tomorrow or 30 years from now.

Remember to keep in mind that you are given the chance to be here today. Be thankful for that.

  1. Hi Mark, sometimes, I really sat down and think the most basic simple questions about the remaining of my life just as of today. The thought of today can be written down for future me, that will be useful or fun to look back what my decisions had made today. No one knows what is the best or the worst thought in our lives, but everything must on along with time. Very true, agree if we can be thankful for what we have and try to be better self in our life, we probably can find out what is real meaning of life one day!

  2. Great article & I agree with all of it! My engine definitely needs a break! Lol I need to meditate after I come home from a stressful long work day, and keep it all in the right perspective. I make an effort to focus on the positive in it all. Gotta enjoy life!

    1. Thank you! I definitely like to take the time to relax. Sometimes I get so busy between work and all my projects, it stresses me because I am not taking any time I feel for enjoyment. Even though I enjoy my projects, not work so much, I find it necessary to make time for fun or treat myself to a night out! Thanks for reading and keep that engine maintained!

  3. I actually just made a list of “Things I’m thankful for” literally!! Haha. I may have been inspired because it’s the month of Thanksgiving but I do this often mentally. I think when we go through disappointments in life it’s really important to focus on all the positive stuff in our life. I feel like it’s so easy to take things for granted. Taking time to reflect on everything you have to be grateful for keeps you positive and appreciating the miracles in your life. Thanks for the great read! 😀

I know sometimes a writer may come of as one being a great resource and having answers to many facets of questions.
